Your Time Is Up

There was only a matter of time. He made the deal, he knew it would come to this, and he could hear the rhythm of her boots outside his front door. Doug was sweating profusely, and his breathing was uneven. He shut his eyes, and began to pray. To who? Wasn't he the one who made that deal with the demon? He was praying to anything and anyone that could help him. Deep down, he knew his death was inevitable. He knew what he was getting into when he made that deal. Doug just didn't think the time would pass so fast.

Then the front door made a large crack, and when Doug opened his eyes, the door was on the floor. He looked up and saw the dark figure that haunted his dreams every night. Her red hair was brighter than ever, and her black eyes bore into Doug's brown one's.
"Time's up, Sonny. Did you enjoy your perfect marriage while it lasted?" she cackled.
"Y-you killed her, Meg. Didn't you?" he mumbled.
Meg laughed a sarcastic and girlish giggle, and then lowered her voice,"I promised you a happy marriage with Helen as long as you paid your debt to me once the time was up." she whispered.
"But you killed her, and now you're going to kill me," he cried.
"Because your time is up! I never said how I was going to end it. Trust me, it could have been worse. It's your lucky day. I won't kill you. Just take your soul." she paused and smiled to herself, then took a deep breath and continued, "Well its time. Pucker up." she said.
He stood up and walked up to her. She grabbed his face, and put her lips to his. Grey smoke came from Doug's mouth and traveled into Meg's. Her body convulsed, and she slowly backed away from him.
Doug rubbed his eyes and smacked his lips, "I don't feel any different," he said, but she noticed the tears were gone from his eyes.
Meg laughed, "You don't now, but you will, Doug." she paused, "Let's get to work. We have another soul to collect. And I think she is pretty close..." she trailed off.
Doug pulled his pants up and looked at Meg and waited for her to say something.
  "Who?" he asked.
Meg looked at him with a hint of a smile, "Your mother. She made a deal with me to stay alive long enough to see your brother get married. That happened, so it's time for her to go." she answered.
A look of recognition registered on his face, but now unable to feel emotions because of the loss of his soul, he just looked at her and smiled.
"Let's go get my mommy." he said.
